PADDLING with Darren Bush
Extend your paddling season in the Ozarks

This is the time of year when it’s tempting to write about boat maintenance, since here in the Midwest most of us are getting our boats hung up in our garages, barns, sheds and in my case, my corner of one of my warehouses. One of the few advantages of owning a paddlesports shop is quasi-unlimited storage.
You have to admit it, we were robbed this spring. Snow in late April? Seriously? I’m still recovering from that.
For those whose season wasn’t quite long enough, you can head south and/or southeast. Aside from extending your paddling season, paddling south will definitely give you a view of a completely different type of water.
Boreal forests are wonderful; twisty streams delightful. And while a sea kayaker may fall in love with Lake Superior, I fell in love with the flora and fauna and sometimes, the water color of Ozark Rivers and blackwater estuaries.
