If you're up for running both Grandma's and the Twin Cities marathons and skiing the full American Birkebeiner, in sequence, then consider registering for the 2013-2014 Upper Midwest Endurance Challenge (UMEC) at secure.marathonguide.com/register/umec/index.cfm.

The registration fee for the challenge is $30. After registering, you'll receive instructions for entering Grandma's, Twin Cities and the Birkie as a UMEC participant.

Registration for the events that comprise the challenge is conducted separately and registration procedures and deadlines for the individual events must be followed. UMEC entrants will be reminded via e-mail when each event opens and closes registration.

Athletes who successfully complete all three events of the 2013-14 Upper Midwest Endurance Challenge will receive an exclusive Brooks Essential Run Jacket with the UMEC logo. The windproof, water-resistant jacket, worth $75, is available only to UMEC finishers.

The Upper Midwest Endurance Challenge will recognize open and five-year age-group winners for men and women based on total time in the three events. A participant's age group will be determined based on his or her age on February 22, 2014. A conversion factor will be used to adjust finish times for any UMEC participant skiing the 54K Birkie Classic Race. Age group winners, the oldest men's and women's UMEC finishers, and participants chosen at random will be entered in a drawing for prizes.

All UMEC finishers will be entered in a separate drawing for the grand prize of free entry into the 2014 Grandma's Marathon or Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon, the 2014 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon or Medtronic TC 10 Mile, and the 2015 American Birkebeiner or Kortelopet.

Athletes interested in participating in the 2013-14 Upper Midwest Endurance Challenge must register by August 1, 2013. Entry into the individual events composing the challenge is the responsibility of the participant. Registration fees for the Upper Midwest Endurance Challenge and the events that constitute it are nonrefundable and nontransferrable.
