Youth kayaking

and horse riding camps offered by

Mi Zi Zak Kayaks

Mi Zi Zak Kayaks near Eau Claire, Wisconsin, is hosting a therapeutic outdoor nature immersion program that encourages youths to engage physically in activities, particularly recreational flatwater kayaking and horseback riding. The Youth Nature camps program is open to adoptive, foster care and at-risk youths with special opportunities for families.

The program is designed to boost children’s self-confidence and help them bond with other youths and nature to help reduce the impact of attachment disorder and abuse effects.

The Youth Nature Camp sessions are set for July 21, 23, 28 and 30 and August 4, 6, 11 and 13. Mi Zi Zak Kayaks also runs diverse special summer Youth Kayak camps that are more intensive, such as three-day and weekend sessions. Sign up early, as space is limited. Groups sizes are kept to four to six participants. The Ideal age range for the kayak program is 9-17.

Clinical and academic studies indicate that more time spent immersed in nature cultivates “nature intelligence” and results in lower rates of anxiety, depression and aggression rates, according to Richard Louv’s book Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorder.

Program coordinator for the kayak sessions is Gigi Stafne who owns and operates Mi Zi Zak Kayaks. She has worked extensively with at-risk families and domestic violence and sexual assault victims.
